Title: First Dual Deployment High Power Rocket Build
Location: H³ Workshop 1
Date: Dec 28,29 2012
Description: Mad Cow Areobee 150A with mods
Builder: Russell Hall
Project Mission Codename: H³RDD1(Rocket Dual Deploy One)
So my daddy got me a Mad Cow Areobee 150A for Christmas… Two thumbs up for Daddys 🙂 but we wanted to add dual deployment with an e-bay to it. But Mad Cow doesn’t make a 3.1in e-bay kit, so we had to make our own.. See day two.
Background on this rocket. It’s a 52in long, 3in around, 38mm motor mount, dual deploy rocket. The plan is to put a ‘J’ motor in this rocket to get it going Mach 1, and send it 4100 ft up. The Dual deployment means it will fire off a drogue 14in parachute at apogee (4100ft) and the main 36in parachute at 800ft.
Day 1 – Putting the rear airframe together.
rear motor mount epoxy in airframe
front motor mount installed, with first coupler in rear airframe.
Second airframe tube epoxy in with shock cord attached to rear eye-ring
fin number four installed, just like the other three
while I was putting the air frame together, my daddy started making rings needed for the e-bay.. here he is sanding them.
Day 2 – creating an e-bay, designed to fit in a Mad Cow 3.1in tube using a 6in long coupler.
drilling all of rings for e-bay at one time.
sled cut out, now to cut out fitting and epoxy it together.
sled fitted and epoxy together
sled done, it’s 2.5in wide and 5in long..
Waiting for Paint… Nose Cone – Airframe Tube – E-Bay – Aft Airframe with fins and a 38mm motor mount….. Two guys, two days, one rocket!
