20130217 Launch
February 17, 2013 at Michigan Team-1 Manchester MI Field.
Mission “Get Daddy Level 1 Certified”
Bonus round, see if my dual deployment rocket works.
Weather was Sunny, COLD 20F with a wind out of the NW around 8 mph..
The sun was out long enough to melt a 1/2 of MUD at the potato farm.
We spent most of our time sitting in the car warming up and getting out of the cold wind.
My Daddy with his support team, and he is holding “Sky Berry” LOC Onyx PK-12
Getting the Motor installed, As you can see, I am great at helping.
Rocket ready on the pad and we are FREEZING!
“Sky Berry” going up up up and away on a Cesaroni Pro 29 H90
“Sky Berry” made it to 2493ft
Grandpa is NAR Level 1 Certificated
And now on to the Bonus round.. H³RDD1 Test Flight
Motor purchased… Cesaroni Pro38 I287 Smokey Sam (PK38-4G-SS)
I am hooking up the drogue parachute, getting the rocket prepared.
Main parachute loaded, rocket is primed.. and good to go.
Rocket is ready, lets go to the pad.
Loading the Rocket on to the rail, please note the MUD.
Off she goes, powered by an I287 Smokey Sam.
Up up up up she goes to 3356ft.
And she came down with only the Drogue parachute with the Main chute failing, so she came down fast around 70mph and she hit HARD on a frozen potato field. It hit so hard it broke a fin out of the slot, with some air frame damage. Not sure if we can fix it yet or not. Good news is that it didn’t drift too far away, like 100 ft from the launch pad.
Home at the work shop… Sad day for rocketry.
On board camera = FAIL to cold, dead battery
Main parachute = FAIL tied to close to the rocket, newbie
Electrics = FAIL unknown, under investigation
Overall, good times!! and COLD
we got to see the SLI Team from Millington, MI bring out the scratch rocket on a AT K1050, plus TONS of J and I rockets go up.
